From Tokyo, day trips head west to Ome and Higashimurayama, where breweries such as Ozawa Shuzo and Toshimaya run visits, or to breweries near Narita and in Kanagawa. From Osaka, the obvious trip is Nada in Kobe and Nishinomiya, under 30 minutes by train. From Hiroshima, guided trips go to Saijo, where seven breweries sit within walking distance of the station.
Many day trips combine sake with something else: a gorge walk, a historic district or a food tour.
Several brewery towns are easy to visit without a tour. Saijo and Nada are short train rides from Hiroshima and Osaka, and their breweries welcome walk-in visitors. Read our Saijo and Nada guides before you go.
For seeing a brewery, Ome (Ozawa Shuzo) and Higashimurayama (Toshimaya) in western Tokyo are the closest. Private tours can add breweries near Narita or in Kanagawa.
Yes. Saijo is on the JR Sanyo Line east of Hiroshima, and the brewery street starts right outside the station.
