The Suwa City Tourism Association sells the “Gokuraku Set” at the tourist information centre inside JR Kami-Suwa Station. It includes a tasting of four or five sakes (20 ml each) at each brewery, or a cup sake to take home, plus an original glass and a digital map. The five breweries are Maihime, Reijin, Honkin, Yokobue and Masumi.
Tasting reception ends 30 minutes before each brewery closes, so start in the early afternoon at the latest.
Lake Suwa and the Suwa Taisha shrines are nearby, and Kami-Suwa is a stop on the JR Chuo Line between Tokyo and Matsumoto. The walk is flat and short, which makes Suwa one of the easiest self-guided sake crawls in Japan.
¥4,000 including tax for the Gokuraku Set, which covers tastings at all five breweries.
